Very easy to communicate with them online. I've added country's to the list I'm travelling to, no problem. Had an issue accessing my acct, but quickly worked out, with their tech guy, it was likely a VPN issue and resolved. Changed payment card when my I reached my limit on my registered one, all very easy for this old guy. Not had to claim yet though.
The worst thing i have ever use, this is a scam site, do not use
Super user friendly and transparent sign up process!
Overall great experience with how claims are handled. The process is transparent and the team takes the time to inform and educate.
Such a great app, dashboard and user experience. Easy to navigate and the fact that you have a real life person to chat to 24/7 was the selling point for me. I just signed up for a subscription plan so lets see down the line but for now 10/10.

Terrible service.
Everything looks beautyfull when they sell but on practice, they dont get reimbursements done, they are not clear and take a long for something basic like a kinesiology session.

Had two claims with them over the year I was with them and they paid out quickly for each once I had uploaded the correct documents. Their communication was good and I was able to speak to a few different people to make sure I was uploading all the right documents.

To be able to communicate with a human being rather than AI from the start, was enormously helpful. The customer service team was efficient, full of useful information and enabled me to be confident in buying my travel insurance policy from SafetyWing.

So easy to sign up and was exactly what we were looking for as we start our digital nomad era. Highly recommend! Best option out there for long-term travel/work.

Elaine from Safety Wing has been nothing but helpful. We would have been lost without her help. Excellent customer service and a fantastic medical insurance.

It was smooth and easy on the website. I had heard about safety wings from friends of mine in Mexico and Vietnam so, I purchased with confidence.

I forgot to purchase overseas travel insurance before traveling to Germany. I found this insurance after I left and was able to sign up, which gave me great peace of mind. The cost was also reasonable. Thank you!

Coverage dates are calculated in UTC, so if your travel starts in Australia or Asia, the first day won't be covered, and if it finishes in the Americas, the last day won't be covered.
In short, unless your travel is only in the Europe timezone, you have to pay for an extra day or you won't be fully covered. One way travel from Asia to America, pay for an extra two days.

I have been using SafetyWing for four (4) years while traveling and working outside the USA. The SW website is well organized and easy to find what you are looking for. I have made two (2) claims in 4 years, both claims were accepted by SW. One claim was extensive… included six (6) different doctors from four (4) different countries. Initially this claim was denied by SW, but I petitioned for an independent review by a panel of doctors who overturned the initial SW denial and got all my doctor bills reimbursed. The 28-day billing cycle requires using a spreadsheet to keep track of billing cycles, as does the 90-day periods that allow for using the 15-day coverage while visiting the USA. I have never had a problem contacting SW on the website chat or phone number. I am very satisfied with the service and coverage that is provided.

⚠️ DO NOT use SafetyWing as your travel insurance provider — especially if you’re traveling in Asia! ⚠️
My experience with SafetyWing has been deeply frustrating and, frankly, exploitative.
Their claim requirements are unreasonable and culturally insensitive, especially for travellers seeking treatment in the Global South. They demand excessive paperwork and rigid documentation standards that many small, local hospitals and clinics in Asia simply cannot meet. Expecting UK-style bureaucracy from a rural or local clinic is completely out of touch with the realities of global healthcare.
After months of my claim being “under review,” they ultimately denied reimbursement — despite me submitting every possible document they requested.
In one case, I visited a clinic that had a pre-written insurance claim form for tourists, which the doctor signed. That wasn’t enough.
In another case, I went to a more formal clinic with English-speaking staff, and they spent months revising and re-writing my doctor’s note to meet SafetyWing’s demands — still, my claim was rejected.
Their final excuse? “Pre-existing conditions” — for something I was never diagnosed with before this trip. It’s clear that SafetyWing will keep asking for more and more documentation until they find a reason to deny your claim.
This company’s practices are not only unfair but show a deep lack of cultural awareness. They do not understand or respect that healthcare documentation varies significantly across countries.
Avoid SafetyWing at all costs. If you’re traveling in Asia or other parts of the Global South, this insurance will likely fail you when you need it most.
SafetyWing, I demand to be fully reimbursed for the medical expenses I paid out-of-pocket, which your unreasonable and culturally insensitive claims process denied. If this is not resolved promptly, I will consider taking legal action and escalate this to relevant consumer protection authorities.

On November 13, 2025, I got confirmation from Safetywing that my wife's maternity benefit has been pre-approved. At first, I was optimistic that this will make the claim process much easier. On November 21, 2025, I followed the instructions that was sent to me and filed a claim for the maternity benefit.
On November 28, 2025, I received an email saying "After review, in order to process your claim dated from 20 to 23 November 2025 (2,500 USD), we still need a bank transaction statement reflecting the charges. This is required to confirm that the expenses took place. Please send us the requested documents to proceed with your claim". I realized that I was not able to attach all the documents needed, so this time around, I made sure to attach the official receipt, along with the transaction slip that shows the Merchant ID, Terminal ID, Reference No., Transaction No and etc. Basically, attached all the documents that prove without a shadow of a doubt that we paid the amount.
Based on our plan, we are eligible to receive $2500 (with 20% co-pay). At the time I filed for my claim, our bill converted to USD was $2541.04. With that said, we should be able to maximize the claim.
On December 2, 2025, I get the SAME EMAIL saying "After review, in order to process your claim dated from 20 to 23 November 2025 (2,500 USD), we still need a bank transaction statement reflecting the charges. This is required to confirm that the expenses took place. Please send us the requested documents to proceed with your claim". It's as if they didn't even look at the attachment I added on my claim.
Afterwards, I took it upon myself to email remotehealthclaims and send all the necessary documents there, along with the proof of payment. On top of that, I had to attach my proof of payment for the THIRD TIME on my claims dashboard. I even emailed the person who I believe handles escalations like this one.
Unfortunately, today (December 3, 2025) I got the same email AGAIN saying "After review, in order to process your claim dated from 20 to 23 November 2025 (2,500 USD), we still need a bank transaction statement reflecting the charges. This is required to confirm that the expenses took place. Please send us the requested documents to proceed with your claim." At this point, I'm convinced that they are intentionally sabotaging my claim. I can confirm that having the claim pre-approved didn't make a difference whatsoever.
The people who are reviewing the documents are obviously not doing their job. Safetywing has ALWAYS had this habit of asking their clients to submit documents that has already been submitted. Just check their reviews on reddit or glassdoor and you'll see what I'm talking about.
They kept saying "This is required to confirm that the expenses took place", I already sent the official receipt. No hospital in the word would issue an official receipt if payment did not push through. The fact that we have been discharged 10 days ago should be enough reason to believe the transaction took place, but still they remain doubtful.
