Warning don’t ever buy any electrical products from HomeGoods. there’s a reason that they have these in the store because they can’t sell them anywhere else. The product is defective and electrical danger. I bought two lamps recently and I was getting ready to go to bed one night and I smelled something electrical burning and it was the lamps that I purchased from HomeGoods in Salem.

Selling damaged products

I have been to this store twice since it opened in my town. The first visit was pleasant with seemingly quality products. The second visit not so much.

The wooden shower mat I got they stacked them on top of each other so it had glue and stuff from the one stacked on top of it, the rubber pieces that is used to safe guard the floor stained the top of the wood on the piece I purchased.

Then the pillows I purchased, brought those home and one of them has a 3 inch rip which I didn’t notice until 5 days after purchase so now I have to sew that. For the prices they sell their items at, I shouldn’t be dealing with this at all.

Review for HomeGoods

Review for HomeGoods – Laurel, MD (August 25, 2025, 12:30 PM)

My experience at the Laurel, MD HomeGoods on Monday, August 25th at 12:30 PM was shockingly poor. I was assisted by the Assistant Store Manager, Veda, whose rude, dismissive, and unprofessional behavior was appalling. As a loyal HomeGoods customer who spent $600–$800 at this location the prior week and over $1,000 at nearby locations, I was stunned by the lack of basic courtesy.

From the start, Veda offered no greeting and carried an annoyed, impatient attitude. I came in to return four items with a valid receipt, but instead of helping, she immediately looked for reasons to deny my return. She repeatedly stated: “The description is not for these items,” and when I asked her to clarify, she refused, saying: “I’m not going to tell you that” and “I don’t have to.” This is completely unlike any other HomeGoods experience I’ve had, where employees clearly explain receipt discrepancies and process returns efficiently.

When processing the remaining two items, Veda again checked the system and incorrectly claimed one item was not on my receipt. When I corrected her, she responded only with a dismissive “Oh.” She even attempted to break open a sealed box to inspect its contents, despite the box clearly being unopened. The entire interaction was unnecessarily hostile, rushed, and unprofessional.

I later called another HomeGoods location. The manager there reviewed the department numbers, confirmed the items matched, and processed my return immediately, highlighting the stark contrast in customer service. Before driving 45 minutes, I returned to Laurel to ask Veda for her full name and title. Again, she was dismissive, refusing to provide complete information and saying: “You are the one with the nasty attitude. I do not care how much money you spent at this location.”

This behavior reflects poorly on both Veda and the store’s management. Good customer service requires patience, communication, and a willingness to resolve legitimate issues—all of which were completely absent. I contacted HomeGoods Customer Service the following day; the representative apologized, documented my complaint, and promised a call from store or regional management within 24–48 hours. As of September 3, 2025, I have received zero follow-up.

It is alarming that this is not an isolated incident; multiple reviews confirm Veda has treated other customers similarly. Laurel HomeGoods management should understand that experiences like this drive away loyal customers. I deserve a formal apology, but I will never return to this location and will actively discourage clients from shopping there.

This is a clear reminder that good customer service is not optional—it is essential for maintaining trust, loyalty, and a positive reputation. Buyer beware: I gave Laurel HomeGoods time to address my concerns, but they failed. Check the reviews—Veda is a recurring problem, and management seems unbothered by her behavior.

HomeGoods Return Policy is Trash

I tried to return a brand new, unused, with the original receipt in hand rug to HomeGoods. They refused the return because the hand tag wasn’t included. Not attached. Just present. A piece of cardboard, mind you, that most people toss the moment they get home.

So let me get this straight: I have the rug, the receipt, and it’s in perfect condition but because I didn’t save a random tag that serves no purpose after purchase, I’m out of luck?

This policy is beyond unreasonable. It’s not about protecting the store from fraud it’s about making returns as difficult as possible. Rugs aren’t impulse buys. They’re big-ticket items you need to see in your space. But HomeGoods acts like you’re trying to scam them if you don’t keep every scrap of packaging.

I won’t be shopping here again. If you value flexibility or basic customer service, take your business somewhere that respects common sense.

Hour wait to check out Their check out system is insane

Their check out system is insane. Every-time I come the wait is over an hour to check out. Such poor management. I have vowed never to come back. Has the management ever even noticed how many people come in see the line & take their business elsewhere. This is the Flower Mound store by Long Prairie Rd. I hope someone in higher management can fix this. It appears they have no respect for their customers time & assume people will just put up with the long, long wait!! Get more help & stop abusing your customers or you won’t have any!!!

very pushy about their credit card

Consistently harassed about signing up for their credit card. Literally EVERY time I shop which makes me not want to go in. EVER. Today despite me literally stating I do not want a credit card, she kept going. I told her I don't need a card charging 20+% interest and she again, kept pushing. Finally told her I haven't had a credit card in over 25 years and was absolutely not interested and thankfully was fully checked out so I could walk away. I do not have this issue in the local TJ Maxx, nor did I ever have this kind of consistent pushing of a credit card in the last state I lived in. Tried to call corporate and of course, 'office closed'.

Halloween overload in mid-July

It is mid-July. We went to our local HomeGoods in search of a travel neck pillow thinking we would surely find one there. But no. The entire store - I mean from front to back - was stocked with Halloween merchandise. Do you need a skeleton soap dispenser? No problem! HomeGoods has it! Do you need pumpkin bath towels? Not a problem at this HomeGoods! How about a witches platter? Dozens of those! This store is a joke. Seriously, the buyer for this store should lose his or her job. There was so much Halloween merchandise, we truly felt as though we were in a bad horror movie. There wasn't room for it all. I don't know about y'all, but it was just too much. We're not at all opposed to Halloween merchandise, but please - in the proper amounts and at the proper time.

Horrible Company Ethics…

Have had a TJMax/Marshalls/HomeGoods Credit card for quite a few years. Have a credit score of 833. Because I haven’t used it in sometime I received a notification from Experian that TJMax decreased my credit limit from $4,000 to $1,024. I spoke with a representative who said it was lowered because I haven’t used it. This decreases my credit score by 8-10 points. It is disgraceful and infuriating that a company like TJMax/Homegoods/Marshalls to exert this much power over a persons credit limit and score simply because the card has not been used!! This shows the Company’s lack of integrity and care for their customers.

What has happened…..

First, always my go to store in Stuart, Florida. I always recommend this store to so many. Products & prices on point. The past year this store looks so unorganized but have still shopped there now it has gotten really disorganized. Products just thrown on shelves, products on the floor, just a total mess. Tried looking for an item & everything was all over the place, nothing grouped together. Such a mess, had to walk out. The employees are very nice but now seem stressed. This store is busy but would be more profitable if organized. Plus their customers would look happier instead of making rude comments as they are walking around.

Store would not return leaking drink dispenser

Recieved two glass beverage dispensers as a Christmas gift. Unfortunately, one leaked when the punch was added. My son did a quick patch up job with duct tape to save the drink (and table cloth).
I was told it could not be returned because it had been used!
It is sad to see how customer service has deteriorated when TJMaxx, Marshall's and Home Goods merged. Unil recent recent years, 90% of all my clothing, home goods and gift purchases were made at these three stores. However, because of the dismal customer service in recent years, I have relied more and more on Amazon. It is a shame these retailers chose not to provide the same exceptional service that Amazon does.

I put HomeGoods less than average

I put HomeGoods less than average. When they have good items, they're great and the prices are fabulous. However, many times, they are broken, chipped, breaking, ripping, shredding, and with flaws, which is why they find their way to the store. If you manage to luck out, you will love it. Many times, I find the quality of the merchandise control lacking. Many times it also looks like a herd of elephants went through the store as it is disastrous with things in the wrong places, precariously placed. The best thing about it is that I can always find pet necessities and usually kitchen needs. The worst thing is their price stickers. I understand the need for theft deterrence but the things don't come off. On top of that, they put them smack in the middle of exactly where you don't want them. Example - Harry & David gift baskets. Why can't you put them on the labels where you can cut them off easily? Or on the bottom of the basket? Why put then right on the front of the plastic wrap so that it looks horrible when you want to holiday gift? It's terrible. I can't get them off products and I have a slew of HomeGoods merchandise with left over sticky white tags. It's a nuisance and I admit, the main reason I stopped going there for a while. I'd rather pay a sales price or even full price to have a nice, sticker free product in my home or as a gift. It's such a small detail and the biggest preventative for a purchase in my book.

The other horrible thing is how bad some of the furniture and kitchenware are. There are cracks, chips, breakage and for the furniture, you can have a table on 3 legs, broken handle/knob, scratches along the top or side and they will still try to charge you a high price for them. It's outrageous. The pottery is on glass shelves, shoved in every which corner they can find, with no rhyme or reason and again, chips, scratches and it's still sitting there hoping to get bought. It's definitely a bargain basement type of feel, unfortunately.
